The telemedicine wars heat up as a federal court in Boston dismisses a patent infringement suit filed by American Well against Teladoc. The legal wrangling began last year when Teladoc petitioned the US Patent and Trademark Office to invalidate several American Well patents. American Well then initiated the infringement suit against Teladoc just before its IPO last summer, asserting that Teladoc’s business model illegally copied one of its cornerstone patents. American Well plans to appeal the decision.
