HHS proposes information-blocking penalties for providers. MIPS participants found to be blocking information may receive a zero score in the Promoting Interoperability performance category of MIPS, while MSSP participating providers would have their program eligibility rescinded for at least one year. Comments are due January 2.
Research and Innovation
A study of 1,052 ambulatory physicians over 115 weeks finds a strong association between the use of telemedicine and time spent charting in the EHR during and outside of appointment hours. The study did not find an increase in the use of electronic messaging from patients. The abstract makes no mention of how these findings compare to the amount of time physicians who see patients in office spend performing similar activities in the EHR.
