Private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners acquires an undisclosed stake in NextGen Healthcare from Thoma Bravo, which took the company private in 2023. It was around this time last year that the company brought on a new CIO/CISO, CTO, and chief product officer. CEO David Sides joined the company in 2021 after serving as COO at Teladoc Health.

Research and Innovation

A new patient access survey from Experian Health finds that while the vast majority of surveyed patients say they want to schedule appointments at their convenience via mobile device, nearly 40% of surveyed providers say getting patients to use digital tools is their biggest challenge. Seventy-one percent of providers consider improving the scheduling process to be an urgent priority. (On a somewhat related note, I went through The Little Clinic’s automated, phone-based scheduling process this morning and found it to be a relatively painless experience. I would have preferred speaking to a real person, but did appreciate the fact that I never had to repeat myself and the entire call lasted less than five minutes.)

Medical measuring and weighing company Seca develops a portable body composition scanner for use in primary care settings. The scanner offers metrics related to body fat and muscle mass in just 24 seconds. An accompanying app integrates the scanner’s analysis with a patient’s treatment plan.
