Specialty practice-focused health IT vendor Modernizing Medicine acquires Nemo Health’s TrakNet EHR and billing software for podiatrists.

Nemo Health CEO Ali Safiedine, DPM, MBA has joined Modernizing Medicine during the transition, while EVP John Guiliana, DPM has joined as medical director of podiatry.

It is the company’s second acquisition this year, having acquired orthopedic health IT vendor Exscribe in January.

DignifiHealth raises $7 million in a seed financing round. The West Virginia-based company offers telemedicine, chronic care management, remote patient monitoring, and pharmacy benefit management software and services for practices and employers.

California-based Agilon Health raises over $1 billion in its IPO last week, achieving a valuation of $11 billion. The company’s shares opened at $28.25, 23% above its initial $23 pricing. The primary care company serves seniors, primarily Medicare Advantage enrollees, in 11 regions.

Optum has expanded its virtual care service to all 50 states, adding more specialists and related services. Optum executives say they plan to more tightly integrate virtual care with in-office care, home-based care, and behavioral healthcare.

Y’all know I love a good library story: Several libraries in Delaware have installed soundproof social services kiosks that patrons can reserve for telemedicine appointments, virtual job interviews, and other types of online interactions. The library system eventually plans to install kiosks at branches statewide.

Home blood-drawing startup GetLabs raises $3 million in a seed funding round led by PivotNorth Capital. The 37-employee company will use the financing to officially launch its services in Phoenix, Philadelphia, and Dallas. Its main goal, according to founder and CEO Kyle Michelson, is to eventually partner with telemedicine companies.

OpenLoop raises $3 million in a seed funding round. The company, which launched early last year, has created technology that helps physicians find shifts with telemedicine companies.

Firefly Health raises $40 million in a Series B round of funding led by Andreessen Horowitz. The company has developed a virtual-first model for primary care enhanced by partnerships with urgent, home, and specialty care providers.

Its internal billing technology has helped to ensure that providers get paid quickly, which has no doubt helped it attract partners in the four states it currently serves. It will expand its services to another five by the end of the year.

Led by Executive Chairman Jonathan Bush and CEO Fay Rotenberg, Firefly Health will use the new financing to expand its services beyond payers to employers.

I’m nearing the end of Emma Donoghue’s “The Pull of the Stars,” which chronicles several fictitious days in the life of a maternity/fever ward nurse in an Irish hospital during World War 1 and the Spanish flu outbreak of 1918. I could do without the recurring use of the word “pandemic,” things being what they are; other than that, the book is one I’m flying through eagerly. Sort of fun fact: According to an interview with the author, the meaning of the word ‘influenza’ comes from an Italian superstition that stars influenced health. That they were directly causing the flu.”
