Patients on Canada’s Prince Edward Island are losing patience with the province’s telemedicine service due to licensing rules that prevent non-local physicians from seeing patients virtually during peak appointment times. While the number of appointments conducted via the Maple platform has gone from 932 per month in 2022 to 2,339 as of June 2023, the number of physicians licensed to see patients in the province hasn’t kept up. Canadian lawmakers are considering a national licensing model to help address the issue.
