Researchers at West Virginia University determine that patients with chronic conditions benefit most from telemedicine visits for about a year, rather than ending at the six-month mark. Virtual care that lasted closer to 40 weeks produced mixed or neutral results. Lead researcher Jennifer Mallow says more studies need to be done to determine the ideal frequency of telehealth visits needed to improve care effectiveness, quality, safety and cost.
